Services

Our assessments and therapy are provided either by face-to-face appointments in our tailored clinic space in Kogarah NSW or via Telehealth to allow access to families Australia wide.

This Multidisciplinary Clinic has an Occupational Therapist, Dietitian and Speech Pathologist all in the same consultation. This clinic is best for complex cases.

During the consultation there will be a comprehensive discussion about your child’s feeding history, growth and developmental milestones along with identifying your feeding concerns and goals.

We will ask you to provide a food diary which will be analysed in detail by our Dietitian. The Dietitian will provide advice to improve your child’s nutrition and growth.

A feeding observation and skill assessment will be conducted by our Speech Pathologist. The Occupational Therapist will provide strategies on environmental modifications, positioning, and adaptive equipment. They are also trained to assess sensory processing concerns.

Together with your family we will develop goals to optimise your child’s feeding skills, nutrition and overall development.

Skill-based dysfunction is common in children with paediatric feeding disorders. A child’s feeding skills must be safe, age-appropriate and efficient. This clinic is best if there are drinking, chewing or swallowing concerns that require an assessment by an experienced speech pathologist.

Nutrition is crucial to optimise growth and developmental outcomes. Many children with paediatric feeding disorders have a restricted quality, quantity and variety of food and fluids consumed placing them at increased risk of malnutrition and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Our dietitian is experienced in paediatric nutritional support, enteral nutrition management and enteral tube weaning. The dietary advice provided is practical and tailored to suit a child’s feeding skills, medical background and sensory preferences.

Feeding therapy is available to support your child with developing their feeding skills, dietary variety and volume of food and fluids consumed. Feeding therapy can also assist with improving sensory tolerance to various food textures. Feeding therapy will be tailored to meet the individual needs of your child. A range of evidence-based strategies are used.

Occupational Therapists support children with mealtime participation by providing strategies and interventions to improve function. This includes assessing physical and sensory limitations, improving utensil skills, and creating strategies for optimal feeding behavioursAn Occupational Therapist may also make recommendations about seating to improve feeding skills and positioning at mealtimes. Occupational Therapists are experienced at using sensory integration techniques to promote increased tolerance to non-preferred food smells, tastes, and textures. Usually, this happens through responsive food play and exploration initiated by the child and guided by the therapist.
